The New “Me” in 10 Steps

It’s safe to say there are things we can all do to improve ourselves. After all, no one is perfect, right?
Making small improvements and adjustments to yourself can change your life for the better in every way. Your relationships, health, self-esteem, and even your financial situation can improve when you decide to make positive changes.
Deciding to change, and taking the first steps towards doing so can sometimes feel overwhelming and difficult. But it’s important to remember that we are all in control of our own destiny, no matter how stressed or overwhelmed we may feel at times.
A helpful way to take charge of your destiny is to break it down into smaller challenges, rather than allowing your goals to become too scary and overwhelming. Don’t try to achieve everything all at once. Choose one or two things to work on and go from there.
Big life changes start with little steps. Start small and you’ll be amazed at where you end up!
Let’s take a look at 10 simple ways you can start to improve your life and create a whole new you today.
- Be Grateful
Make a conscious effort to be grateful for the things you have in your life. When something gets you down or goes wrong, take a moment to think about all the things that are going right for you. Think about how lucky you are to have food to eat and a house to live in.
Be grateful for the people in your life – your family, friends and loved ones.
Positive thinking and gratitude are powerful and can change your outlook on life entirely without you even realizing it.
- Don’t Worry About What Other’s Think
This can be easier said than done, but if you want to live your life on your own terms by your own rules, it is necessary.
Don’t let the opinions of other people control what you do, or have an impact on how you feel. Your life is just that – yours!
It isn’t easily done, but if you can let this fear go it will make you feel happier and freer than you ever have before.
- Exercise
Exercise is great because it can improve your life in multiple ways. It can improve your health physically, but also emotionally.
Finding a way to exercise that you enjoy will provide you with an outlet to release stress and burn off extra energy.
Your body and your mind will thank you for it!
- Be Kind
Being kind is a great way to not only improve the lives of others but also your own. You will be amazed at how good you will feel about yourself when you are doing something purely to benefit someone else.
Even doing something as simple as smiling at a stranger, or opening the door for someone can make someone’s day, and make you feel incredible. Try it – you might be surprised!
- Learn Something New
Continuing to learn new things as an adult is a wonderful way to increase your confidence.
You will find you will have more interesting things to talk about with others, and you will develop new interests and perhaps even new hobbies.
Think of something that interests you and that you’d like to know more about. Perhaps you’d like to learn to speak another language or to play a musical instrument. Maybe you’d like to learn to cook or to play a sport. There are so many things to learn. The possibilities are endless!
- Keep a Journal
Keeping a journal can be a helpful way to keep track of your progress. Doing this can be encouraging throughout your journey, as it allows you to check-in and see how you’re doing and how far you’ve come.
It is also extremely therapeutic for the mind and soul to pour out your emotions and thoughts freely from time to time.
- Sit In Silence
How often do you just sit silently? Not doing anything, just sitting with yourself quietly?
Your answer is probably very rarely, if ever. But really, this is something we should all try to do regularly.
Sitting silently can help you to reflect on your life and what’s happening around you. It can help you to relax and clear your mind. Incorporating this into your routine could certainly be beneficial to your overall mental health.
- Read
Books are wonderful. They provide us with a form of escape without actually having to go anywhere. How awesome is that?
Reading is a way to incorporate multiple aspects of self-improvement at once. For example, learning new things, opening your mind, being creative, providing an escape and a source of relaxation.
- Sleep
The average person needs around 6.5 to 7.5 hours of sleep each night to function at their best, and lack of sleep can cause all kinds of issues to the human body; such as depression, memory problems, dizziness, heart disease, weight gain, high blood pressure and more.
So, if you want to make progress and improve yourself, why not aim for around 7-8 hours of sleep per night. This simple change can help you to become more productive, healthier and happier.
- Practice Self-Care
Self-care is doing something to benefit and protect your mental and physical health. That could mean anything from having a lovely hot bath to going for a walk, to getting a massage, etc.
It’s so important to put yourself first sometimes. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup, so it’s important to look after yourself before you can take care of others.
So, in short…
If you take anything away from these 10 ideas, may it be how truly simple they are. It really doesn’t take much to take a small step towards a big change in your life. There a so many ways you can change your life for the best, and so many things you can do to infuse positivity into your days.
